Over 2.3 million people will soon receive troubling news in the mail: an April 14 breach of Advance Auto Parts’ IT systems exposed the personal data of current and former job applicants and employees.
Following an investigation, the company confirmed that compromised information might include names, Social Security numbers, driver’s licenses, other government IDs, and birthdates.
The attackers had unauthorized access to Advance’s Snowflake cloud storage and data warehousing systems for over a month until the breach was discovered on June 10.
Law enforcement has been notified, and access has been revoked. Meanwhile, Advance Auto Parts is urging individuals to stay alert for signs of fraud and identity theft by monitoring financial records. Affected individuals are also being offered credit monitoring and identity restoration services through Experian.
Business operations remain active as the company works to strengthen its systems against future breaches.
